Old Friends in New Places

Our team may be in Hungary to work alongside Jon & Amanda Good, but we’ve also had the good fortune to meet up with some of our other favorite IM Global Servants in Hungary!

After several long days of work with school children in nearby towns and villages, we were excited to have dinner with Larry & Becky Stanton and their delightful children.

The Debrecen Fórum is a nice shopping mall here; the mall food court provided our team the familiar taste of American eats. The food here in Hungary is delicious, but sometimes it’s nice to have a bite of a familiar taste. Familiar taste, but not a familiar language. It’s sort of odd (and a little intimidating) seeing a Burger King menu entirely in Hungarian.

The mall also allowed for fellowship. It was nice strolling the corridors with the Stantons, visiting with them and talking about their ministry and life in Hungary. If anything, our team now has a much deeper and genuine appreciation for the challenges the Stantons have faced – immersing themselves in the language and culture of eastern Hungary.

It’s a wonderful thing to support our missionaries by coming alongside to help (as we’re doing this week with the Goods). But it’s no less significant to support them with prayer. Perhaps we don’t truly appreciate the realities of being more than 5,000 miles from friends and family until we experience it for ourselves. Being here is giving us a much greater appreciation for the sacrifices and service of all our global servants like the Stantons.
